This report is focused on the role of contemporary artists after the rise of popular culture. It focuses on artists Barbara Kruger (b.1945-) and Banksy (1974-), who both speak about similar issues regarding late capitalism; yet their backgrounds are from different decades. The aims and objectives of the report is to outline what issues artists may face in the art and consumer markets, why they may oppose it, and evaluate the most successful way to make anti-consumerist art. Methods used to do so will include artist publicity; economic data, journal/magazine/newspaper articles, and blogs, including both public and professional opinion; formal analysis; and Marxist, feminist, anti-capitalist and economic theory.
