Exploring the connections between music performance anxiety and perfectionism, and their influence on university students’ enjoyment of solo performing

The study explored connections between Music Performance Anxiety (MPA) and perfectionism, and their influence on university students’ enjoyment of solo performance. The participants that took part in this research study were university students who study BA Music at the University of Lincoln. The methodology used for this study was a mixed method approach that involved using standardised measures and previous theoretical framework, a mixture of qualitative analysis and open questions were used as participants in this study where required to fill out a questionnaire on Microsoft Forms. Results from this study showed that musicians who had high levels of perfectionism, would also have high levels of music performance anxiety and musicians that had low level of perfectionism would have significantly lower levels of music performance anxiety.
