Employee motivation during organizational growth and restructuring in small businesses

Any business that wants to boost productivity and customer satisfaction must have a motivated and qualified team. A crucial requirement for every business to operate successfully over the long term is the capacity for event prediction and market adaptation. This could create a need for organizational restructuring and implementation of relevant changes, with the aim to aid the growth and survival of the business. Employee motivation is crucial in managing organizational restricting and growth. In order for small businesses to grow and survive in a competitive market, the human capital of the business must stay motivated through these phases. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of organizational restructuring and growth on small businesses. The target population of the study were owners and managers of small businesses located in Nigeria. The sampling technique for the research was by non-random sampling, utilizing both purposive and convenience sampling. An online questionnaire was used to collect primary data from 161 respondents and descriptive and inferential statistics was carried on the data. The findings in this study show that organizational restructuring and growth have a positive influence on employee motivation in small businesses. The study also found a positive influence on organizational growth by organizational restructuring. It was recommended that proper engagement is used by small business owners and managers to increase employee interest and ensure motivation is maintained during restructuring and growth in the business. The study does have certain limits, though, and it is recommended that in order to increase representativeness and generalizability, a larger sample size as well as the usage of quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques be employed.
