This research aimed to investigate female solo travel in Latin America and how the media may influence an individual’s perception of Latin America as a tourism destination. A literature review was produced to investigate solo travel as a concept, gender inequality within travel decisions, Latin America as a tourism destination and how the media may negatively impact it. It draws into the Geography of Women’s Fear concept and how some places are considered male-dominated and unsafe for women, mainly solo travellers. A questionnaire was conducted to investigate how people felt about travelling solo to Latin America, their reasons not to and what would motivate them to travel solo. It also provided questions regarding the media’s influence on their perception of Latin America and what those countries can do to become safer for female solo travellers. The questionnaire was distributed through the researcher’s social media platforms and network. The data obtained was analysed and presented using tables and figures and was later discussed and compared to the information gathered in the literature review. Lastly, the researcher provided the study’s limitations alongside recommendations for future research.
