Section 1- Dissertation Introduction
Between June 2017 and August 2018, I worked for a large multinational organisation as an Industrial Placement student in the Project Management function. I slowly became aware of differences in organisational structure and culture, or what I believed at the time was culture, and how this affected group dynamic, employee engagement, job satisfaction and particularly productivity. The organisation would organise the workplace in different ways depending upon the type of work undertaken and the category of employee (operating in different functions across the business) doing that work. Specifically, the organisation would impose different modes of control – both culturally and structurally.
