Today, monitoring is a crucial pillar of network and security management within any organisation. Without adequate monitoring, infrastructure cannot be audited, managed or secured. With demand on networks consistently increasing over the years, monitoring solutions have never played a more important role in the security of an organisation, and threats targeting organisations have never been more sophisticated. Furthermore, our growing reliance on these networks means the consequences of a successful breach have never been more severe. This project proposes a simple, convenient monitoring solution for a network and security manager. Utilising the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Python programming language, the tool produced aims to analyse device traffic and flag anomalous behaviours within the organisation.
