Living as a young teenager during the campaigning of Brexit became rather overwhelming. Every media outlet was consumed with presenting information regarding the referendum. Some content was issued to educate; however, it became almost impossible to decipher genuine news from the fake. It became apparent to me that this problem with politics and truth was not restricted to the United Kingdom, but other countries in the west such as America.
Throughout my dissertation, I will be addressing Trump’s technical campaign techniques that guided him to presidential victory. I will analyse how his style of politics has transformed modern democracy as we know. Distrust is ever-growing between politicians and the public. The analysis of Trump during the election of 2016 is considerably relevant to issues that are being faced globally. This is due to the increased risk of the demolition of democracy. Many of the same issues discussed throughout these chapters which reference to the election within the United States, relate to the Brexit campaigns.
The following chapters discuss Donald Trump’s campaign and how he utilised different media channels throughout his campaign. These were used to bolster his polls and solidify his win as the Republican leader. Digital culture has the profound ability to distort the notions of truth, be it through image editing, the concocting and spreading of fake news, aligning with a drastic decline in the quality of journalism the 21st century is facing.
