Recovery and harm reduction workers are key agents in providing services and support to people with problematic substance use and their experiences should be explored. This dissertation examines the experiences, challenges, and opinions gained from semi-structured interviews with recovery and harm reduction workers in the Greater Lincolnshire area. This primary research is presented with existing literature that establishes widely faced challenges within the drug treatment community and how these challenges impact the provision of services within this area.

The results of this study show that despite needing to navigate many widespread challenges that have the potential to impact their client outcomes, these workers can achieve successful client outcomes and provide a good standard of care and support. These workers can adapt to national policy changes and continue to provide successful and individualised care to clients despite having unmanageably high caseloads, too few staff, and underfunding. The challenges identified in the data are reflected within existing literature, indicating a need to review the current policies and procedures for these services and how existing and potential future challenges can be mitigated.
