This paper outlines the summation of answering the question How guided skill-progression affects player experience vs Player choice. An artefact in form of a game will be created to support this through implementing a skill-progression system to guide the player when interacting with a game and then implementing a second version of the skill system to give the player the freedom to choose any skills. Both systems will then be assessed to compare the impacts of player experience measured through the Player Experience Inventory (PXI) to measure enjoyment. This study is essential as more research is needed to be conducted to provide with more engaging and effective skill-systems due to the severity of the same formula such as battle passes and the meta being prominent in today’s industry. This helps to see the difference when a player is naturally met with guidance in terms of tutorials in skill systems and the most notably the meta that is used extensively to give the player an advantage or guidance for the best approach as to when the player is motivated to try and play how they want. This will highlight the contrast in player experience when a player is guided vs their own personalized builds.
