An investigation into whether supplementary fitness training enhances undergraduate dancers’ performance in release technique

This study explores why dance students may need to consider integrating supplementary training methods (cardiovascular, strength and flexibility) alongside their studies and whether these components of fitness enhance undergraduate dance students’ performance in release technique. This study is motivated by an interest in both dance science and physical fitness. The reason for undertaking such a study is to prove that there is a need for supplementary training outside of release technique class. I want to find out in terms of my own practice, whether supplementary training does enhance the art and improve performance. I will draw upon literature that explores data on contemporary dance students and will carry out my own primary research project with research participants from the University of Lincoln, to see whether supplementary training is beneficial for undergraduate dance students.
